CBCT : CONE BEAM COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY
Vol. 8 No. 2 (2022)From the
Editor's DeskIt gives me immense pleasure and joy to be the guest editor of CBCT Magazine for this special issue on DYNAMIC NAVIGATION IN DENTISTRY.
We are in the world of digital dentistry where different sets of DICOM and STL files are available and these files can be integrated to create a 3D image of jaws and soft tissue structures creating a virtual patient in front of us on the computer screen. An integrated digital workflow provides a systematic method for evaluating all aspects of dentofacial anatomy, function, and esthetics in a more logical and interdisciplinary manner than the conventional approach.
Today, the use of dynamic surgical navigation for the planning and execution of implant surgery has demonstrated improved accuracy outcomes when compared to freehand surgery.
The dynamic guided navigation system was developed to enable the real-time visualization of anatomic structures such as bone and teeth, as well as drill tips during implant surgical procedures. This type of sys-tern has advantages in placing implants in a pre-planned, prosthetic-driven position and avoiding crucial anatomical structures such as the inferior alveolar nerve and the maxillary sinus.
This special issue is focusing on the various uses of dynamic navigation systems in dentistry along with their clinical protocols, its advantages over static guide system and its limitations.
Creating a special issue on such new technology requires stupendous efforts and I am so proud of Dr Prashant Jaju - Editor in Chief of the CBCT magazine and his entire team for bringing this issue for the readers with quality articles providing detailed insights into dynamic navigation system that is going to be a boon to newer dentists across the globe
